Strange Celebrity Diets

Sloane | April 18, 2014

Being rich and famous is tough. But being rich and famous and thin is even tougher. When plastic surgery isn’t an option (hello embarrassing paparazzi photos taken after leaving the post-op office!) stars often turn to very off methods to shed pounds. While some celebrities stick to the tried and true long term method of losing weight and getting in shape (i.e. eating in moderation and working out three to five times a week) other celebrities opt for stranger methods to lose weight. If you’re looking to drop a few pounds before bikini season starts we wouldn’t recommend any of these crazy celebrity diets like the cookie diet, the ice cube diet, the babyfood diet, the master cleanse, or the air diet, but hey, if it makes you feel good about sporting that two-piece, give it a try. Just don’t tell anyone you got the idea from us. Tell them you got it from one of these following skinny celebrities:

Gwyneth Paltrow: Macrobiotic diet

Ok, full disclosure: before my wedding I purchased Gwyneth’s cookbook It’s All Good and I lost 30 pounds. But I also exercised like crazy and drank so much water that I didn’t get a full night sleep for months because I had to wake up and use the bathroom every 30 minutes. Sorry, TMI. But Gwyneth’s diet is the most sane of all the diet plans. She’s all about clean eating, healthy living, and spending thousands of dollars on produce a month. You can read more about my experience with her cookbook here. Before she had children she used to follow a strict macrobiotic diet where she wouldn’t eat anything processed, ever. She also wouldn’t eat fish, dairy, meat or eggs and survived solely on fruit, veggies, whole grains, cereals, seeds and algae. She now eats clean meat and fish but still no dairy. Poor woman, someone give her a piece of cheese, stat.

Jennifer Aniston: Lemon diet

Friends star Jennifer Aniston is known for her hot, ageless body. How does she achieve her results? She often skips breakfast and starts her day with a glass of freshly squeezed lemon juice mixed with water. (FYI Gwyneth does the same thing but she adds ginger and honey). Aniston claims the combo helps her remove fat and waste and detoxify. She has also recently cut out all other toxins from her life including alcohol, cigarettes, and caffeine. And fun.

Victoria Beckham: Five Hands Diet

Ok, here’s where the diets start to get a little crazy. Posh Spice, a.k.a. Victoria Beckham, supposedly stuck to the Five Hands Diet are her daughter, Harper Seven was born. The diet is simple—all you do is eat five handfuls of energy and protein rich food a day. As in, five handfuls of nuts, berries, and sadness. I guess that diet explains her permanent scowl. Poor thing is HANGRY (hungry + angry).

Anne Hathaway: 500 calories a day diet

Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for her performance as poverty-stricken Fantine in Les Miserables and she deserved it. Poor girl lived off a diet of 500 calories a day to achieve her rail-thin frame for the role. Her 500 calories were made of hummus and radishes and not much else. At least she got to take home a gold statue for all that extreme dieting.

Snooki: the Cookie Diet

Reality television star Nicole Elizabeth “Snooki” Polizzi wasn’t happy with the way she looked on screen during filming of The Jersey Shore and she decided to do something about it. It’s Snooki we’re talking about so obviously instead of doing something normal, like eating healthy and going to the gym, she took the totally insane route of subsiding on little more than cookies. To lose weight she ate one regular meal per day and snacked on six cookies to keep hunger at bay. I guess it worked because the star dropped 50 pounds.
