The Most Expensive Jewelry in the World

Sloane | January 9, 2014

Harry Winston, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bvlgari, Cartier and Lorraine Schwartz are some of the  most exclusive jewelry brands in the world. Their exquisite pieces of jewelry have graced the hands, necks, fingers, and ears of the richest people in the world. When celebrities want to drape themselves in diamonds, rubies, sapphires and more they turn to these designers to create one-of-a-kind pieces to rent, borrow, or own. While most people are happy with a 0.5 carat diamond from Zales, the richest people in the world command only the best and most expensive pieces of jewelry. These are the most expensive pieces of jewelry in the world:

If the name of this necklace sounds familiar it’s because the piece was featured in the 1998 film, Titanic. The Harry Winston Heart of the Ocean (Coeur de la Mer) necklace features a 15-carat blue diamond surrounded by sapphires and diamonds. Gloria Stuart, the woman who played the elderly Rose in Titanic, wore the $20 million stunner to the 1998 Academy Awards. Replicas of the necklace are sold for a mere $3.5 million.

The Perfect Pink: $23.2 million2103_The-Perfect-Pink-3

This rare 14.23-carat pink rectangular diamond recently sold at Christie’s Hong Kong for an astonishing $23.2 million. Two rectangular shaped D flawless diamonds weighing 1.73 and 1.67 carats flank the Perfect Pink. All three diamonds are mounted on an 18-karat rose and white gold ring. Fewer than 10% of pink diamonds weigh over 0.20 carats, which helped this flawless beauty fetch its astronomical price.

Susan Rosen in collaboration with Steinmetz Diamonds designed this $30 million bikini for the 2006 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. The bikini features no fabric, just diamonds. The barely-there bikini with the hefty price tag features over 150 carats of D Flawless diamonds including a 51-carat, pear-shaped diamond, a 30-carat emerald cut diamond two 15-carat round diamonds, and a pair of 8-carat pear diamonds all set in platinum. The bikini was modeled by cover girl Molly Sims—we wonder if she asked if she could take it home.
