Selena Marie Gomez is an American singer and actress with an estimated net worth of $10 million dollars. Gomez was born July 22, 1992 in Grand Prairie, Texas. She was named after Tejano singer Selena, who was slain almost three years before Gomez was born. Her parents divorced when she was five years old and her mother who had her at 16 raised her. Gomez is five feet five inches tall and weighs 124 pounds.

When Gomez was in elementary school she was teased relentlessly. Her only outlet was acting, a skill she picked up while watching her mother prepare for and act in theatre productions. Gomez began auditioning and began homeschooling, eventually earning her high school diploma in 2010.

Gomez earned her first role in 2002 when she appeared on Barney and Friends as Gianna. She appeared in 16 episodes, her final appearance in 2004. Producers felt that she was getting too old for the show. In 2003, she made her film debut in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. She then acted in various commercials and smaller projects such as The Suite Life of Zack & Cody in 2006.

In 2007, Gomez appeared in three episodes of Hannah Montana playing the title character’s rival, Mikayla. While shooting Hannah Montana she also shot two pilots for the Disney Channel, Arwin!  and a spin-off to the Lizzie McGuire  series. Gomez was offered a starring role in the Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, playing Alex Russo.

In 2008, Gomez launched her own production company, July Moon Productions. In 2009 she released her first studio album with her band Selena Gomez & the Scene called Kiss & Tell. The album was an immediate success, debuting inside the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.

In 2012 Gomez appeared in Hotel Transylvania, voicing the animated character, Mavis and then filmed Spring Breakers, an experimental coming-of-age film. In October 2012, Gomez announced that she was debut her first solo abum, Stars Dance, in 2013. She released the first single off the album, “Come & Get It” on April 8, 2013.
