David Adkins, better known by his stage name Sinbad, is an American comedian and actor with an estimated net worth of -$10.77 million. Sinbad is 6’5″ and weighs 240 pounds. David Adkins was born on November 10, 1956 in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Adkins graduated from the University of Denver in 1978 before joining the United States Air Force as a boom operator. While assigned to the 38th Air Refueling Wing at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, Kansas Adkins often performed stand-up at the base’s talent contests.
After purposely going AWOL repeatedly, Adkins was successfully discharged from the military for parking his car in the wrong position. Adkins set his sights on getting into show business as a comedian. He admired Sinbad the Sailor and decided to use the stage name “Sinbad”. Sinbad appeared on Star Search and won his round against comedian Dennis Miller. He was then quickly cast on the short-lived sitcom The Redd Foxx Show.
In 1987 Sinbad got his big break when he was cast as Coach Walter Oakes on The Cosby Show spin-off series A Different World. Sinbad played his character on the A Different World from 1988 to 1991.
In the 1990s Sinbad became super popular for his comedy specials on HBO. He has also starred in films such as Necessary Roughness, Houseguest, First Kid, Jingle All the Way, and Good Burger.
In 2009 the state of California placed Sinbad in its top 10 list of its worst tax debtors. Sinbad is currently $10.77 million in the hole and according to bankruptcy documents $8 million of it is due to back taxes. It has been reported that on February 5, 2010 the comedian put up his 2.5 acre hilltop home for sale to help alleviate his monetary issues.
