That happened in 2009 when he began starting and scoring regularly, finishing as the third scorer in the league. The next year he was the co-scoring leader in the top division.

In 2010, after watching Hernandez develop, European powerhouse Manchester United signed him in a transfer deal. Hernandez made an immediate impact on the Red Devils scoring a handful of game winning goals in his first season with the club and netting a total of over 20 on his way to being named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for the team in 2011. He would go on to become a consistent scoring threat for Manchester Untied for the next three years, despite often coming off the bench. Although his name is routinely mentioned in transfer rumors, the Red Devils have so far refused to let him go to another club. Hernandez would play in the 2010 World Cup with Mexico and is a strong candidate to be on the team in the 2014 World Cup.
