After performing in a school play, Cross developed a passion for acting. She went on to study at the world-renowned Julliard School in New York City.

After graduating from Julliard, Cross performed in many theatrical productions during the 1980s. She also appeared in soap operas such as The Edge of Night, Another World and One Life to Live during the 1980s. Cross eventually moved to Los Angeles in hopes of getting jobs on primetime television. In 2004 Cross’ biggest break came when she was cast as Bree Van De Kamp on the  popular ABC series Desperate Housewives. Cross yet again brought a realness to Van De Kamp’s character that forced viewers to be tuned in week after week. In 2005 she was nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on the series.

In June 2006 Marcia Cross married stockbroker Tom Mahoney. The couple welcomed twin daughters, Eden and Savannah in February 2007.
