Ed O’Neill is an American actor with an estimated net worth of $40 million. He is 6’1″ and weighs 228 pounds. Edward O’Neill, Jr. was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 12, 1946. He was raised by his Irish American parents Ed, Sr. and the late Ruth Ann Quinlan. Due to his large stature, O’Neill was seemingly built to play football. He attended Ohio University on a football scholarship. He later transferred to Youngstown State University where he continued to play a football defense linesman. In 1969 O’Neill was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers. His professional football career was short-lived because he was cut during training camp.
After the devastation of being cut, O’Neill went back to complete his collegiate studies at Youngstown State University. He gained an interest in the arts and joined the university’s theater department. After college O’Neill became a social studies teacher at his former high school. He then began acting full-time when he joined the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
After auditioning for years and getting small parts here and there, O’Neill was cast as Al Bundy on the Fox sitcom Married with Children. The smash sitcom made O’Neill an American superstar. Married with Children aired until June 1997.
While Married with Children was filming, O’Neill appeared in a number of films and television programs. Some of O’Neill’s filmography includes Wayne’s World (1992), Wayne’s World 2 (1993), Little Giants (1994), The Bone Collector (1999), and Wreck-It-Ralph (2012). In 2009, O’Neill was cast yet again on a hit comedy series, ABC’s Modern Family. For his portrayal of Jay Pritchett on Modern Family, O’Neill was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2011.
Ed O’Neill has been married to actress Catherine Rusoff since 1986. They have two daughters, Claire and Sophia O’Neill.
