The Most Expensive Booze in the World

After a long day at the office nothing takes the edge off like a nice bourbon or a martini straight up. For normal people, top shelf vodka like Ketel One is an expensive treat, savored on the most necessary of occasions. For celebrities, Ketel One might as well be well, well vodka. When celebrities want to get drunk they reach for the most expensive liquors in the world. Bottoms up to the most over-the-top expensive liquors on Earth: 

Diva Vodka: $1,060,000

Scotland’s Diva Vodka is all about the bling. This triple distilled vodka is made by Blackwood Distillers. They ice filter their vodka through Nordic birch coal and then pass the liquor through a sand of crushed diamonds and gems. Each bottle is totally customizable and can be encrusted with the buyer’s choice of rubies, diamonds, emeralds, or any other precious stones.

 

Spluch Tequila: $255,000

Spluch Tequila, made from the Tequila Ley .925 company broke the Guinness World Record for the most expensive bottle of liquor sold in 2006 when they sold this bottle. The bottle of tequila is made of solid white gold and platinum and was revealed in Mexico City. This is one bottle you don’t want your kids stealing from the liquor cabinet.

 

Macallan Whisky:  $75,000

In 2005, a South Korean businessman purchased a 62-year-old bottle of Macallan’s Scotch whisky for $75,000. The bottle comes from the Macallan Fine and Rare Collection from 1926 and is completely sold out. If you want to taste this whisky you can purchase a dram (1/8th of a shot) at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa for $3,300 per dram.

 

Wray and Nephew Jamaican Rum: $51,000

In 1930’s the popularity of the Mai Tai cocktail drained the Wray and Nephew’s rum supplies. In order to keep up with demand the Jamaican company had to come up with a new formula for their rum and change production methods. Before Wrap and Nephew changed their rum they kept four bottles of their original recipe. One of those bottles was sold for $51,000 and has yet to be open.

 

Sherry: $43,500

In 2001, Sotheby’s London sold a bottle of Sherry from 1775 for $43,500. The bottle is from the Massandra collection, one of the finest collections in the world. There is nothing spectacular about this particular Sherry other than its age. This bottle is not fit for human consumption and instead is seen as a collector’s item.
