Sergey Brin is an American computer scientist and internet entrepreneur with an estimated net worth of $24.4 billion. Sergey Mikhaylovich Brin was born on August 21,1973 in Moscow, Russia. Both of his parents are graduates of Moscow State University. His family moved to the United States when Brin was six years old. They settled in Adelphi, Maryland. Brin’s father works as a mathematics professor at the University of Maryland. His mother works as a researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

In 1990 Brin enrolled into the University of Maryland to study computer science. He graduated in 1993 with honors.  He began his graduate studies in computer science at Stanford University. While studying at Stanford Brin met Larry Page. The two became great friends and roommates. They crammed their dormitory with cheap computers and applied Brin’s idea of data mining to create a search engine system. Their program became so popular at Stanford that they took an academic leave from Stanford to start up Google out of a rented garage space. As of 2008, Brin is still on leave from his PhD studies at Stanford.

Sergey Brin co-founded Google with Larry Page. Google has become one of the most profitable internet companies ever. Brin and Page own 16% of the company collectively. In February 2009 Brin was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering, which is the highest professional honor for someone in the engineering field. In November of that year,  Forbes ranked Page and Brin as the fifth most powerful people in the world.
