Jorge M.Perez is an Argentinian-born American real estate developer with an estimated net worth of $1.55 billion. Jorge Perez was born in 1950 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Cuban-exiled parents. His family relocated to Colombia in 1959, where they ran a pharmaceutical company. At the age of eighteen, Perez chose not to join the family business. He instead chose to move to the United States to complete his collegiate studies. Perez graduated from the University of Michigan’s C.W. Post College summa cum laude. He received his Master’s degree in Urban Planning.

After college, Perez moved to South Florida where he worked as an urban planner for the City of Miami. Perez got promoted to the position of development consultant; he stayed with the city for three years before leaving to work on his own endeavors. In the early 1990s Perez expanded to building condominiums. He took on the task of helping to revitalize Miami Beach. Perez developed breathtaking condominiums throughout South Pointe. He converted it from a insolvent neighborhood to one of the priciest zip codes to live in South Florida.Outside of Miami Beach, Perez helped revitalize West Palm Beach with the development of  City Place. City Place is an upscale lifestyle center that includes rental properties, dining, entertainment, and boutiques.

Over the years, The Related Group has developed  luxury properties like Icon Brickell, The Plaza, One Miami, Ocean III, The Slade, Boca Grand, Apogee Miami Beach, and many more high-rises. In recent years, Perez has expanded The Related Group’s portfolio to include hotels like the SLS Hotel & Residences. He also joined a team of prominent developers, one of which includes George Clooney, to work on a $3 billion project in Las Vegas. The project will include building an array of luxury condos, skyscrapers, five-star hotels, restaurants, night clubs, and a casino.

In October 2004, the University of Miami honored Perez with the inauguration of the Jorge M. Perez Architecture Center. Four years later, C.W. Post’s Long Island University Campus awarded Perez with with an honorary Doctorate of Human Letters. He also received the 2008 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Michigan. Jorge Perez is one of the country’s most successful real estate developers. The Related Group is the nation’s largest Hispanic-owned family business. Although, Perez has amassed fortune, fame, and respect, he is still a huge family man. He is thoroughly devoted to his longtime wife, Darlene and their four children.
