Woody Allen has an estimated net worth of $65 million

Woody Allen is an American screenwriter, director, actor, author, comedian, and playwright  with an estimated net worth of $65 million. He is 5’5″ and weighs 150 pounds.  Woody Allen was born Allan Stewart Konigsberg on December 1, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. Allan did not grow up in a happy home. His parents rarely got along and he had a strained relationship with his temperamental mother. Allan became interested in performing magic tricks at a young age. At the age of fifteen, Allan would earn money by writing jokes and selling them to local newspapers. He earned approximately $200 a week for writing jokes. At the age of 17, Allan started calling himself Woody Allen, and legally changed his name. He started writing jokes for talk shows like The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show, and specials for Cid Caesar. At this time he was earning more than both of his parent combined.

Allen’s agents Charles Joffe and Jack Rollins convinced him to step out from the background and start performing his own jokes. He reluctantly agreed, and in 1961 Allen began working as a stand-up comedian at Duplex in Greenwich Village. He initially was so fearful of performing that he would cover his ears when audiences cheered at his jokes. His neurotic, nervous, intellectual stand-up persona worked and he became a very successful stand-up comedian.

Woody Allen transitioned to screenwriting and directing in the mid sixties. He typically starred in his own films as well. Some of Allen’s early films include What’s New, Pussycat? (1965), What’s Up, Tiger Lily (1966), Take the Money and Run (1969), Bananas (1971), Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex (1972), Play It Again, Sam and Sleeper (1973). In 1977, Allen’s breakthrough came when her released Annie Hall starring Diane Keaton. Annie Hall went on to win four Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress in a Leading Role (for Diane Keaton), and Best  Original Screenplay. In 1979, Allen released Manhattan in homage to the place that he was raised and loved, the big apple.

Over the next two decades, Allen continued to make amazing and not so amazing films. With the release of Hannah and her Sisters in 1986, he won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. In the 1990s, Allen produced a string of lighter content films like Husbands and Wives (1992), Bullets overBroadway (1994), Mighty Aphrodite (1995) and Sweet and Lowdown (1999). Most of these films garnered plenty of Oscar buzz and nominations. In 2012, Allen won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for the romantic comedy Midnight in Paris (2011). In 2012, he made his first on-screen appearance in six years for the film To Rome with Love.
