Mo’Nique is an American comedian and actress with an estimated net worth of $13 million. She is 5’9″ and weighs 170 pounds. Mo’Nique Imes was born December 11, 1967 in Baltimore, Maryland. She is one of the three children born to Alice and  Steven Imes Jr. While Mo’Nique was in college she got introduced to comedy. Her brother Steven, dared her to take the stage during open mic night at the Comedy Factory Outlet in Baltimore. She took him up on the dare, and impressed the audience. The Comedy Factory’s owners were pleased with her act and asked if she would host her own show at a beauty parlor the following week for $25. Mo’Nique realized that she was pretty good at comedy and began performing anywhere she could get booked. Mo’Nique’s job offered her a chance to relocate to Atlanta, and she jumped on the offer believing that Atlanta had more opportunities than Baltimore for her to succeed as a comedienne.

Within two years of her first open mic night, Mo’Nique was earning enough money as a comedienne that it became her full-time job. She began opening up for huge music acts like Keith Sweat and Bobby Brown. In 1989, more doors opened up for her after she performed on It’s Showtime at the Apollo. Soon she was appearing on Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam and BET’s Comic View. After making a couple of guest appearances on UPN’s sitcom Moesha, Monique was given the spin-off show The Parkers in 1999. The Parkers stayed on air for five seasons and helped Mo’Nique win three NAACP Image Awards for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series”.

Mo’Nique did not let her comedy career suffer while she was fulfilling her job as a television actress. In 2001, she headlined the successful Queens of Comedy tour/film. In 2002 the ladies of the Queens of Comedy special earned a Grammy nomination for “Best Spoken Comedy Album.” Mo’Nique then went on to work for It’s Showtime at the Apollo, as its first and only female comedian host. In addition to comedy,  Mo’Nique has written the best-selling book Skinny Women Are Evil: Notes of a Big Girl in a Small-Minded World. In 2006, she published her first cookbook Skinny Cooks Can’t Be Trusted.

Mo’Nique has also enjoyed a very successful film carer. She has earned her stripes as a talented and diverse actress, appearing in films like Half Past Dead (2002), Soul Plane (2004), Hair Show (2004), Shadowboxer (2006), Phat Girlz (2006), and Precious (2009). Mo’Nique stunned audiences with her performance as an angry, abusive mother in Precious. Her performance was so stellar that she earned an Academy Award.

Mo’Nique has been married to Sidney Hicks since 2006. The couple have twin sons, Jonathan and David born  in October 2005. Her son Shalon Jackson is from her previous marriage to Mark jackson.
