Michael Palin is an English comedian, actor, writer, and television presenter with an estimated net worth of $245 million. He is best recognized for being a member a member of the Monty Python comedy group and his documentaries about travel. Palin is 5’10” and weighs 155 pounds. Michael Edward Palin was born on May 5, 1943 in Broomhill, England.  Palin’s father was an engineer and his mother looked after him and his sister. He started acting at a young age in school and would go on to attend Brasenose College where he joined forces with others, including Terry Jones, in writing comedic material.

Palin got his first professional gig as a presenter on the English show Now! in 1965! and at around the same would work with Jones and the duo would go on to pen comedy sketches for shows like The Ken Dodd Show, The Billy Cotton Bandshow and The Illustrated Weekly Hudd. Soon after the duo and several other writers who would go collaborate on a show that would change television history, both in the UK and beyond, Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Palin was instrumental in the show’s creation and often played the straight man to John Cleese’s increasing annoyed characters.

The show would lead to a variety of films from the comedic troupe including 1971’s And Now for Something Completely Different, and the iconic trilogy Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1978) and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life (1983). Palin would go on to work steadily after Monty Python’s heyday, penning movies like Time Bandits, acting in films like Brazil, A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures and recently was in The Wipers Time in 2013. Even with all he accomplished, Palin’s greatest contributions may reside in the travel shows ,books and videos, he appeared in during the 1980s, 1990s and new century. The popularity of his shows was such that destinations he visited – and he traveled all over the world – would see an sharp increase in tourism after Palin featured it. The phenomenon was known as “the Palin effect.” Palin was married in 1966 to Helen Gibbins and has three children with her.
