Ray Mancini has an estimated net worth of $5 million

Ray Mancini is a retired American boxer with an estimated net worth of $5 million. Mancini was the lightweight champion of the World Boxing Association from 1982 to 1984. He is 5’5″ and weighs 140 pounds. Raymond Michael Mancini was born on March 4, 1961 in Youngstown, Ohio. Practically born with a pair of Everlast gloves on his hands, Mancini came from a prominent boxing family, with his father, Lenny Mancini, once being a top ranked contender in the 1940s before being injured in World War II. Mancini got his nickname “Boom Boom” from his father. As expected, the Lenny encouraged Mancini to start training at a boxing gym earl in his life and the latter had an accomplished junior career before turning pro in 1979.

Mancini’s aggressive manner earned interest from boxing executives from the start of his career and he was featured often on television. After some notable wins he won the Ohio State Lightweight title in 1980 and then the NABF Lightweight Championship when he beat Jorge Morales in 1981. His first major bout came when he took on renowned Alexis Arguello for the WBO lightweight title in 1981. Although Mancini won the opening rounds, Arguello used his guile and savvy to win the later rounds and eventually stopped Mancini in the 14th round. Not to be deterred, Mancini would get his second chance at a world championship in 1982 when he fought World Boxing Association lightweight champion Arturo Frias and knocked him out in spectacular first round.

Mancini’s career, life and place in sporting lore would change forever in 1982 when he defended his crown against South Korean Duk Koo Kim at Caesars Palace. In a one-sided bout, Mancini battered Kim before the fight was stopped in the 14th round. The damage done to Kim eventually resulted in his death four days after the fight. The tragedy made Mancini slip into a depression and though he would continue to fight – and retained his title until 1984 – he admits he was never quite the same. After his career, Mancini expanded his business portfolio to include a cigar company, and two movie production companies. His life was chronicled in the 2012 documentary, The Good Son and he has appeared in a number of other shows and movies including as an analyst in Celebrity Boxing, in the film Redbelt. He also produced the movie Youngstown: Still Standing. Mancini was married in 1989 but later divorced. He has a daughter and two sons.
