Niki Lauda has an estimated net worth of $100 million

Niki Lauda is an Austrian former Formula One race car driver with an estimated net worth of $100 million. He won the Formula One Championship in 1975, 1977, and 1984. Lauda is 5’7 1/2″ and weighs 138 pounds. Andreas Nikolaus Lauda was born on February 22, 1948 in Vienna, Austria. Lauda came from a wealthy family that disapproved of his racing. Not to be swayed, Lauda started racing Minis and made his way up the ranks but eventually his career stalled. He was then forced to secure a large bank loan to buy his way into the March team in the Formula Two series in 1971. After showing his talent, Lauda was promoted to the Formula One series and raced in both divisions. Despite impressing, the team had a bad season and Lauda was forced to take on another loan and jump to the BRM team in 1973.

Lauda’s big break came in 1974 when a teammate who joined the Ferrari team spoke so highly of the Austrian that Enzo Ferrari made a move to sign him. Lauda finished second in his first race for Ferrari and three races later he would pick up the first victory for the team in two years. His big break came in 1975 when he four of five races during one stretch of the F1 series on his way to his first ever World Championship. He was in pole position to win his second consecutive championship in 1976 but a terrible accident – which put him in a coma and resulted in severe burns when his car burst into flames – curtailed his efforts and he finished second. In 1977, however, Lauda would reclaim the World Championship. Even so, he left Ferrari at the end of the season and joined the Brabham team in 1978.

Despite earning a $1 million salary in 1978 for Brabham, Lauda decided to retire at the end of the season and concentrate on running a charter airline he had founded. But needing money to make his new venture run, Lauda returned to F1 in 1982 and joined McLaren. In 1984, Lauda won this third and final F1 World Championship. He won only one race in his final year, 1985. After his retirement, Lauda would continue to run his airline until he sold it to Austrian Airlines in 1999. He would go on to manage facing teams for a couple of years before starting a new airline, Niki, in 2003. It ceased operations in 2013.  Lauda has been married twice and has five children. After his first marriage, which ended in divorced in 1991, he would marry a former flight attendant on his airline in 2008, who donated a kidney to Lauda after one his brother gave him failed. The 2013 film Rush was based on the 1976 F1 championship battled between Lauda and James Hunt. Lauda made a cameo in the film.
