Charles Barkley has an estimated net worth $30 million

Charles Barkley is a retired professional American basketball player with an estimated net worth of $30 million. He is currently a television sports analyst with the program Inside the NBA. Barkley is 6’6 and weighs 271 pounds. Charles Wade Barkley was born on February 20, 1963 in Leeds, Alabama. Raised 10 miles outside of Birmingham, Barkley was not considered much of a basketball prospect early on as he was short (5’10”) and heavy throughout much of high school. But after growing to 6’4” before his senior year, Barkley made the varsity basketball team and played particularly well as he led his team to the state championship semifinals. Even so, he didn’t garner too much attention nationally but he did earn a scholarship to Auburn University.

At Auburn, Barkley became a star despite his lack of height and penchant for being overweight. He was an exciting player whose athleticism would surprise opponents. He led his conference in rebounding for his three years in school and earned the nickname, “The Round Mound of Rebound.” Barkley decided to forego his last year of eligibility in college to enter the NBA Draft in 1984 and was selected 5th overall (two spots after Michael Jordan) by the Philadelphia 76ers. In his first year, Barkley established himself as crowd pleaser and finally was able to get a handle of his weight. In his second year, he led the team in rebounding and was its second leading scorer. In his third year, Barkley would become the leader of the team, as its leading scorer and the league’s leading rebounder. He was named to his first All-Star team and would go on to play for the Sixers for 8 years before being traded to the Phoenix Suns. He enjoyed his greatest team success with the Suns as he reached the 1992-1993 NBA Finals, but lost to Jordan’s Chicago Bulls. Barkley was named the league’s most valuable player that year.

After several more years at the top of his game, Barkley would finish out his career after being traded to the Houston Rockets in 1996-1997, although injuries curtailed his effectiveness at the end of his playing days. Although he never won an NBA Title, Barkley was a member of the 1992 Dream Team at the Olympics and returned four years later to win another gold medal.  As well as being a force on the court throughout his career, Barkley’s outspoken and controversial manner made him a magnet in the media and he endorsed several high-profile brands including Nike and Right Guard. He has admitted to being a big gambler, once acknowledging that he lost up to $10 million through gambling. Barkley has written two books and is now the preeminent NBA analyst on TNT’s Inside the NBA. Barkley was married in 1989 and has a daughter.
