Kevin Garnett is an American professional basketball player with an estimated net worth of $180 million. He is 6’11” and weighs 254 pounds. Garnett currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association. Kevin Maurice Garnett was born on May 19, 1976 in Greenville, South Carolina. Garnett’s parents separated soon after his birth and his mother raised him and his two siblings on her own in South Carolina. He began playing basketball in middle school although he didn’t play competitively until high school. After three years of high school ball in South Carolina, an arrest after a fight led Garnett to move to Chicago to finish high school. He led Farragut Career Academy to a 28-2 record and was named High School Player of the Year by the USA Today. After winning the MVP of the McDonald’s All-American Game, Garnett declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft.

Garnett was selected with the 5th pick of the 1995 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.  He was the first player to go directly to the NBA from high school through the draft since 1975. Although he did not start initially, he would play his way into the starting lineup and ended the season with respectable averages, including, 10.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists. His second year would be even better as his scoring improved to 17 points and he jumped average in rebounding (8.0) and assists (3.1 assists). He was named to his first All-Star game and led the Timberwolves to the playoffs.

After a stellar start to his career, Garnett and the Timberwolves agreed to a six-year extension on his contract worth $126 million in 1997-1998. He continued to improve and his career in Minnesota culminated in 2003-2004 he was named the league MVP and led the team to the Western Conference Finals. He continued to be among the league’s best players throughout the decade but the Timberwolves failed to put a strong supporting cast around Garnett and eventually in 2007 he was traded to the Boston Celtics to join Paul Pierce and Ray Allen in an attempt to make a championship run. The team did exactly that as they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers to win the title. The team would compete for another title in 2010, but lost to the Lakers in seven games. At the end of the 2012-2013 season, Garnett and Pierce were traded to the Brooklyn Nets. Garnett won a gold medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics. Kevin Garnett is married and has a daughter.
