Justin Verlander has an estimated net worth of $15 million

Justin Verlander is an American professional baseball player with an estimated net worth of $15 million. He is currently a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. Verlander is 6’5 and weighs 225 pounds. Justin Brooks Verlander was born on February 20, 1983 in Manakin-Sabot, Virginia. Justin’s father, who served as a union president for the Communications Workers of America, recognized his son’s talent for baseball at a young age. When he started playing youth baseball at the age of 9, Verlander could already throw hard but lacked control – prompting many opposing players, and their parents, to label him a “danger.” Although he was a star player in high school, his relatively low profile school meant that he did not attract professional suitors when he graduated, leaving him the option of playing college baseball.

Verlander was an immediate star at Old Dominion including a 1.90 ERA as a freshman, setting numerous records throughout his 3-year career at the school and striking out 17 players in one game. He was named a First Team Freshman All-American. During his college career he was  also picked to represent Team USA and the experience proved successful as he went 5-1 with a 1.29 ERA in helping the USA win the silver medal at the Pan American Games in 2003. After three years of college ball, Verlander entered the 2004 MLB Draft and was taken second by the Detroit Tigers and eventually signed a contract with a $3.1 million signing bonus. Verlander made his Major League debut in 2005 but went 0-2 that season. But his star would skyrocket in his sophomore campaign in 2006 when he went 17-9 with a 3.63 ERA and led the Tigers to the World Series where he started Game 1.

Verlander’s status as a one of the best pitchers in the Majors was cemented in 2007 when he won 18 games and threw a no-hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers, including throwing a fastball 102 mph that game. After a couple of more standout years, the Tigers gave Verlander a five-year $80 million contract extension. He would go on to win the AL Sporting News Pitcher o the Year Award, the AL Cy Young Award and the AL MVP Award in 2011. Continued success on the diamond led to another contract extension prior to the 2013 season, as the Tigers gave him a seven-year $180 million contract making him the highest paid pitcher in baseball history. Verlander was rumored to be dating supermodel Kate Upton.
