After recovering from his injury, Wilson spent most of the next three years in the minors before getting called up to “The Show” in 2006. He put up decent numbers in limited action in his first two years in the majors and won the role of closer for the 2008 season. That year he recorded 24 straight saves and was named to his first All-Star Game on his way to a 41-save season. Another impressive year followed, opening the door for Wilson to become one of the elite closers in the game.
Such a jump would occur in 2010, when Wilson led the league in saves (48) and helped the team win its first World Series since 1954. He recorded the save in the game-clinching game against the Texas Rangers. Although he was sidetracked some of the following season, Wilson still saved 36 games in 2011, but then missed the vast majority of 2012 after he was required to go through his second Tommy Johns surgery. He became a free agent after the season and signed on with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013, providing some good pitching toward the end of the season and in the playoffs. In the offseason he signed a one-year, $10 million year to stay with the Dodgers in 2014. Despite his strict upbringing, Wilson is a colorful character with a large beard, a Mohawk and once wore cleats that were so colorful the league fined him for using them.
