She is 5’5″ and weighs 132 pounds. Suzanne Mahoney was born October 16, 1946 in San Bruno,California. Suzanne’s mother was a homemaker and her father loaded beer onto boxcars. Growing up, Suzanne was in constant fear of her life. Her father was a physically and verbally abusive alcoholic. She was diagnosed with dyslexia as a child, and due to her condition, Suzanne performed poorly in school. She excelled in the arts, and became active in her school’s theatre department. Suzanne earned a music scholarship to study at Lone Mountain College in San Francisco. After six months of being in college, Suzanne became pregnant and had to drop out. She married her baby’s father, Bruce Somers. The relationship didn’t last and after divorcing her child’s father, Suzanne worked in San Francisco as a model and actress to support herself and her son.

Suzanne stayed in San Francisco and kept her ex-husband’s last name to distance herself from her family. Her brother and sister followed in their father’s footsteps and became alcoholics as well. One of Somer’s early gigs that put her on the radar was as the mysterious woman in the thunderbird in the 1960s nostalgia film American Graffiti. In 1968, Somers got a job as a prize model on the game show, The Anniversary Game. Around that time, Somers released her book of poetry entitled Touch Me. The seductive title attracted the attention of Johnny Carson. She soon became a regular gust on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson. Somers big break came in 1977 when she was cast as Chrissy Snow on the ABC sitcom Three’s Company. Her character Chrissy, became known as the quintessential television “dumb blonde”. At this time she also married the host of The Anniversary Game, Alan HamelAfter salary negotiations soured, Somers was written off the show in 1981.

In the late 1980sSomers became the spokeswoman for a piece of exercise equipment called the ThighMaster. In 1991, she made her way back to the small screen in the sitcom Step by StepStep by Step stayed on the air for six years. While filming the sitcom, she released her first diet book, Suzanne Somers’ Eat Great, Lose Weight in 1997. A year later she released  After the Fall: How I Picked Myself Up Dusted Myself Off along with several more books. Somers sells a variety of health and fitness products through the Home Shopping Network and her website.
