In the 1980s Chan began making small appearances in American films like the popular Cannonball Run but would concentrate on building his brand in Asia. His breakthrough in American film would come in 1995 with Rumble in the Bronx. He followed it up with several more action film successes, but he became an even bigger celebrity with the comedy Rush Hour in 1998, starring alongside Chris Tucker. The film spurred his most successful franchise and led to other big projects in the U.S. including Shanghai Noon and the remake of The Karate Kid.
