Willie Nelson has an estimated net worth of $20 million

Willie Nelson is an American country music singer-songwriter, activist, poet, and actor with an estimated net worth of $20 million. A few of his hit songs are “Crazy,” “Always on My Mind,” and “On the Road Again.” Willie Nelson is 5’6″ and weighs 140 pounds. Willie Hugh Nelson was born on April 30, 1933 in Abbott, Texas. His father was a mechanic and his mother left the family when Nelson was still a young child. After his father remarried and also left, Nelson and his sister were raised by their grandparents who introduced them to the world of music. His grandfather gave him his first guitar when he was only six years old and he and his sister sang in church. By his early teens he was earning money performing in local bands and dance halls. He played sports in high school and worked at a variety of odd jobs, while always performing.

After a brief stint in the Air Force, he attended Baylor University in 1956 but dropped out to pursue his music career. He worked as disc jockey at a radio station and continued writing and performing his music. In 1960, he moved to Nashville and got a job as a songwriter. He began penning successful songs for other artists but did not garner much attention initially as a performer until he moved back to Texas and became part of the burgeoning Austin music scene. Starting in 1973, Nelson’s unique sound started resonating with listeners with his Shotgun Willie album, which is still considered among the greatest albums of all time. Phases and Stages followed a year later and established Nelson as a force in the industry. His break would come in 1975 with  Red Headed Stranger which was his first major commercial success.

Now a bona fide music star, Nelson started to expand his artistic resume, including acting in the 1979 hit The Electric Horseman and Honeysuckle Rose in 1980, with the latter featuring “On the Road Again,” one of his most popular songs ever. The 1980s would see some of his greatest successes with the songs “Always on My Mind” which won a Grammy and “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before” which he performed with Latin heartthrob Julio Iglesias. He continued to record songs and albums for the next two decades. Nelson has had financial, personal and legal troubles but has been socially and politically active throughout. He has been married four times and has seven children.
