Moby is an American singer-songwriter,musician, DJ,and photographer with an estimated net worth of $30 million. He is 5’7″ and weighs 143 pounds. Richard Melville Hall was born in Harlem, New York on September 11, 1965. His parent’s decided that such a grand name was ill-suited for such a small, fragile child. They agreed to start calling him Moby after the whale in the classic Herville Melville novel Moby Dick. When Moby’s father died in a crash in 1967, his young mother moved the family to Darien, Connecticut where his maternal grandparents helped raise him. As a child, Moby spent a lot alone because his mother and grandmother both worked full-time. He was left to his own devices and discovered a love for music.

Moby’s mother supported his musical aspirations. By the age of nine, he was playing classical guitar. While attending Darien High School, Moby formed bands with his friends and classmates. When he graduated from high school in 1983, he matriculated to the University of Connecticut where he studied philosophy. After completing one year of college, Moby dropped out to pursue his musical dreams.

Throughout the eighties Moby worked hard to make a name for himself as a musician. He worked at a record store in Darien. He played in local bands called Gin Train and Caeli Soul. It wasn’t until he started working as a disc jockey did he achieve any notable success. He became a popular DJ, playing sets at various nightclubs all over Connecticut.

In 1989, Moby moved to New York City to take his career to the next level. He signed a contract with Instinct Records. Moby’s first single “Mobility” was not a huge hit, but his second single “Go” reached mainstream success in the United States and overseas markets. In 1995, Moby released his first all techno album entitled Everything is Wrong. The album was a a commercial and critical success. Moby’s nest three albums Animal Rights (1996), I Like to Score (1997), and Play (1999) gained him massive worldwide fame and success. Due to the success of the singles “Natural Blues” and “Porcelain”, Play sold over 9 million copies worldwide. Moby’s next album 18, was a hit album too selling over 4 million copies globally. More of Moby’s albums are Hotel (2005), Last Night (2008), Wait For Me (2009), Destroyed (2011), and Wait for Me (2013).
