Quentin observed the types of movies customers would rent and spent many hours discussing cinema with fellow workers and movie enthusiasts. It was during his time at Video Archives that Quentin wrote his screenplay, True Romance, in 1987. Unable to get funding to film the movie, Quentin sold the script which would eventually would be directed by Tony Scott and become a cult hit, although not a financial success. While still at the video store, Quentin also penned the script for Natural Born Killers, which would eventually be directed by Oliver Stone.

With the money he received from True Romance, Quentin was able to begin pre-production on his third script, Reservoir Dogs. When Harvey Keitel signed on to the movie it received full financial backing. The film soon became a cult hit and established Quentin as a force to be reckoned with. It was his next film, Pulp Fiction, however, that turned the director into a world wide celebrity. He co-wrote and directed the film, which won an academy award for best screenplay and the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, among many other awards. Pulp Fiction earned over $213 million, despite having a budget of just $8.5 million. Since Pulp Fiction, Quentin has become one of the most influential and commercially successful directors in the world, directing Jackie Brown, Kill Bill, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained, among many other projects.
