She is 5’2″ and weighs 135 pounds. Wanda Sykes was born on March 7, 1964 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Her father worked at the Pentagon in nearby Washington, D.C. while her mother worked as a banker. After high school, Sykes attended and graduated from Hampton University with a degree in marketing and went to work for the National Security Agency soon after.

While working for the government agency, Sykes started performing stand-up comedy for the first time in a local club in Washington, D.C. in 1987. Sykes got her own short-lived sitcom on Fox, Wanda at Large, in 2003, and another Wanda Does It on Comedy Central as well as star in a Comedy Central special that year. In the new century, Sykes’ star would continue to skyrocket with notable roles in Curb Your Enthusiasm, a  recurring role in The New Adventures of Old Christine, as well as parts in movies like My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Evan Almighty, Monster-in-Law and License to Wed. She would go on to host her own late-night talk, host the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, and star in a theatrical production of Annie. She was married to record producer from 1991 to 1998 and later married her same-sex partner in 2006, with which she has two children.
