Venus Williams has an estimated net worth of $60 million

Venus Williams is an American professional tennis player with an estimated net worth of $60 million. Williams is 6’1 and weighs 165 pounds. Venus Ebony Starr Williams was born on June 17, 1980 in Lynwood, California. On February 25, 2002 Williams became the first black woman to be ranked World No. 1 during the Open Era. Venus’ parents, Richard Williams and Oracene Price, moved the family to Compton, California when Venus was young. He then decided Venus and her sister, Serena, would be tennis players after watching the sport on television. He began taking the girls to public courts and trained them from early on. When Venus was 9 the family moved to West Palm Beach to further their training. Venus’ father pulled her out of the junior tour when she was the No. 1 ranked under-12 player, with a record of 63-0.

Venus turned pro when she was 14 in 1994 and gave the world’s second ranked player, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, a three set battle before losing in the second round of her first tournament. She wouldn’t play another tournament until 1995, when she played three and reached the quarterfinals of one event, and in 1996 she played five events without much success in any. Venus started to make her mark in 1997 when she played 15 events, consistently made the later rounds and reached the final of her first U.S. Open, losing to Martina Hingis. In 1998, she won her first top level tournament, defeating No. 1 ranked Hingis in the final of the Lipton International in Miami. She would go on to win two other tournaments that year brining her ranking up to No. 5. Venus would win her first two Grand Slam tournaments in 2000, taking home Wimbledon and the U.S. Open back to back. She would repeat the feat the following year, meaning she had won four of six Grand Slams between 2000 and 2001.

Venus would continue to play at or near the top of women’s tennis for the next decade, winning three more Wimbledon championships (5 total) and reaching the finals of numerous more. Although her career has been somewhat overshadowed by her sister, Serena, who has won more tournaments, she is considered among the all-time great players with 44 total career titles in singles as well as 21 in doubles. She also won two gold medals in the 2000 Olympics (singles and doubles) and two more in doubles in 2008 and 2012.  Venus’ trendsetting accomplishments paved the way for numerous lucrative endorsements. Venus also started her own design company, became part owner of the Miami Dolphins and has been named as one of the Top 100 Most Powerful Celebrities by Forbes (2009).
