Serge Ibaka has an estimated net worth of $17 million

Serge Ibaka is a Congolese-Spanish professional basketball player with an estimated net worth of $17 million. He is 6’10″ and weighs 245 pounds. He currently plays center/power forward for the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder. Serge Jonas Ibaka Ngobila was born on September 18, 1989 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo. Ibaka is one of 18 children (third youngest) born to parents both of whom played basketball for the Congolese national basketball team. Ibaka played from a very young age and used the sport to stay away from trouble during what was an otherwise challenging upbringing – his mother died and his father was imprisoned during the Second Congo War. While still a teenager he moved to France and started playing professionally, although in the second division of the French league.

Ibaka then moved to Spain and started playing in its second tier basketball league, although he quickly got the attention of scouts in Spain and the NBA because of his athleticism and shot blocking abilities. His talents were enough to get him selected in the 2008 NBA Draft with the 24th pick by the Seattle SuperSonics, although the team – which would become the Oklahoma City Thunder – agreed to allow Ibaka to develop in Europe. He was then signed to play in Spain’s ABC League for a year before the Thunder paid for his rights and signed him to a 2-year deal. Ibaka’s growth as a basketball player has been significant in only four years in the NBA.

Although Ibaka had a natural talent for shot-blocking that was immediately apparent when he came to the United States, his offensive game has developed at a rate higher than expected. As well as having an array of low-post moves typical of a big man, Ibaka has a natural jump shot stroke that makes him a viable threat to shoot from the outside. His scoring jumped from 9.1 to 13.2 points in the from 2011 to 2012. He continues to be defensive weapon and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year Award voting in 2012. Ibaka’s defensive prowess has helped make the Thunder among the best teams in the NBA and was a big part of the 2012 NBA Finals run. They would eventually lose to the Miami Heat for the championship. Before the 2012 season, the Thunder extended Ibaka’s contract for 4 years and $48 million. Ibaka also plays for the Spanish national team and took part in the 2012 Olympics and won a silver medal with the team. He speaks five languages.
