Serena Williams has an estimated net worth of $100 million dollars

Serena Williams is a professional American tennis player with an estimated net worth of $100 million dollars. Serena is 5’9″and weighs 150 pounds and is currently ranked as the top female tennis player in the world. Serena Jameka Williams was born on September 26, 1981 in Saginaw, Michigan. Serena’s parent’s Richard Williams and Oracene Price moved the family to Compton, California when Serena was very young. In what has become part of sporting lore, Richard decided Serena and her sister, Venus, would be tennis players after watching the sport on television. He began taking the girls to public courts and trained them from early on. When Serena was 8 the family moved to West Palm Beach to further their training. Initially, Venus got more attention because she as almost a year older and enjoyed the greater success. But Serena followed closely and eventually would surpass her sister.

Serena played her first professional tournament in 1995 when she was 14-years old; she lost in the first round winning only two games. She wouldn’t play again in a pro tournament until 1997 and after a rough start to the year she beat two top-10 ranked players in a tournament and eventually reached the semi-finals at the Ameritech Cup in Chicago. She would finish the year as the 99th ranked player. The next year she made her Grand Slam debut, beating a 6th ranked player before losing to her sister in the second round – the first time the sister’s had faced each other professionally. She finished 1998 ranked 20th in the world. 1999 would be a watershed year for Serena as she won several tournaments, including the U.S. Open, becoming only the second African American to do so and ended the year ranked 4th. In 2000, she won several more tournaments and teamed with her sister to win a gold medal in doubles at the Olympics. In 2001, she lost the final of the U.S. Open to her sister, but would go on to win four out of the next five Grand Slam (including her first French Open, first Wimbledon, second U.S. Open and first Australian Open) beating her sister every time and finishing 2002 as the No. 1 ranked player.

From 2001 to 2010, Serena won at least one Grand Slam tournament every year, except in 2006, even battling through several serious injuries and layoffs. Serena again came back from an extended injury layoff in 2011 to regain the No. 1 ranking in the world in 2012 and has won four more Grand Slam tournaments, including two in 2013. So far she has won 17 Grand Slam singles tournaments (6th all time) and 57 total singles titles, as well as 13 in doubles and 4 gold medals.
