Rasheed Abdul Wallace was born on September 17, 1974 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in the inner-city neighborhoods of Philly where he attended Simon Gratz High School. Rasheed was an athletic teenager, he played basketball and ran track at Simon Gratz. He was named USA Today‘s “High School Player of the Year ” and made PARADE magazine’s All-American First Team twice. Although Wallace only played 19 minutes per game, he made those minutes count; he averaged 16 points, 15 rebounds, and seven block per game by his senior year. Wallace was recruited by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill to play basketball.

Rasheed Wallace played college ball with North Carolina until the end of his sophomore year. After that, he entered into the 1995 NBA Draft. He was selected as the fourth overall pick by the Washington Bullets (now the Washington Wizards). In the 1995-1996 season Rasheed Wallace made the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Wallace spent only one season with the Bullets.

In 1996 he was traded t the Portland Trail Blazers. Wallace became an instrumental player on the Trail Blazers’ team, averaging 19.4 points per game and helping the team make it to the Western Conference Finals in 1999 and 2000. In 2000 and 2001 Rasheed Wallace was named an NBA All-Star.

In 2004 Wallace was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. he only played one game with the Hawks before he was traded to the Detroit Pistons. Wallace won the 2004 NBA Championship while playing with the Pistons. He was recognized as a NBA All-Star in 2006 and 2008.

In 2009 Wallace was traded to the Boston Celtics where he played for one season and after that he went on to play with the New York Knocks for one season. The 2012-2013 basketball season was Wallace’s final season playing in the NBA. He announced his retirement on April 17, 2013.

Rasheed Wallace currently serves as the assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons.
