Joe Mauer has an estimated net worth of $70 million

Joe Mauer is an American professional baseball player with an estimated net worth of $70 million. He is currently a first baseman and catcher for the MLB’s Minnesota Twins. Mauer is 6’5″ and weighs 230 pounds. Joseph Patrick Mauer was born on April 19, 1983 in St. Paul, Minnesota. It seems as if there was little doubt that Mauer would grow up to be a baseball player, as he and his two brothers were indoctrinated into the game at a young age by father, Jake Mauer, Jr., who was a baseball coach by profession, and his father – Joe’s grandfather – had played professionally. Additionally,  Joe’s parents met at a baseball game and the family lived 20 minutes from the Metrodome, home of the Minnesota Twins.

Mauer was a standout football quarterback and and baseball catcher in high school, leading both sports teams to success and compiling amazing statistics in each. He was named National Player of the Year in football and offered  a scholarship to attend Florida State University but he chose to sign a $5 million contract with the hometown Twins in 2001. His brother Jake was also selected by the Twins, but while Joe thrived in the minor leagues his sibling struggled. At spring training in 2002, Mauer impressed but the Twins decided he needed a bit more seasoning in the minor leagues and he spent the year still in the minors. Soon however, the Twins would call up Mauer and make him the starting catcher as a 20-year-old, among the youngest ever for the position. After an injury derailed his debut season, he was back for good in 2005.

Since then, Mauer has become the premier catch in Major League Baseball. He has had a batting average of over .300 for 7 of his 10 years, has won the batting title three times (the only MLB catcher in history to do so) and won three consecutive Gold Glove awards (2008-2010). In 2009, Mauer was named the American League Most Valuable Player. In 2010, Mauer signed a 8-year, $184 million contract extension with the Twins. His All-American persona, good looks and hometown boy appeal have made Mauer a marketer’s dream and he represents such high-profile brands as Perry Ellis, Head & Shoulders, Gatorade and Pepsi.  Mauer married Maddie Bisanz, who went to his high school, in 2011 and the couple have twin daughters.
