Helen Mirren has an estimated net worth of $15 million

Helen Mirren is an English actress with an estimated net worth of $15 million dollars. She is 5’4″ and weighs 137 pounds. The actress was born Illiana Lydia Petrovna Mironova on July 26, 1945 in London, England. When Helen was the nine years old, her father whose family was Russian aristocracy, legally changed the family’s surname from Mironova to Mirren. Mirren grew up in a home with no television and they never went to the movies,so when she saw a production of Hamlet at the age of thirteen, she was blown away. All the over-the-top drama fascinated Mirren and she knew she wanted to be a part of that world.

Mirren’s parents discouraged her from pursuing a career as a thespian, and sent her to St. Bernard’s High School-a Catholic convent. Mirren’s English teacher, who happened to be a recruiter for the National Youth Theatre,  urged her to audition for the troupe. She did, and got accepted. Again, her parents dissuaded her for pursuing an unstable career, so Mirren went on to study at a London teaching college. However, Mirren’s parents could not keep her from the stage. At the age of twenty she was starring as Cleopatra in the 1965 production of Antony and Cleopatra. Her performance in the production helped her land an agent. Afterwards, she landed more sexually-charged roles in The Revenger’s Tragedy, Troilus and Cressida, and MacBeth.

Mirren made her film debut in the 1980 film, Caligula. The film contained strong violence and explicit sex scenes which subsequently made the film earn an X-rating. This caused the movie to perform terribly in the box office. It was re-cut and re-released the following year with an R-rating. Mirren’s next film The Long Good Friday (1979) did better in theaters and was received well by critics. She then appeared in films like Excalibur (1981), Cal (1984), White Nights (1985), Mosquito Coast (1986), The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover (1989). All of these movies were critically acclaimed and she even won the Best Actress award from the Cannes Film Festival and British Academy of Film & Television (BAFTA) for her performance in Cal.

Mirren really rose to prominence when she played Detective Jane Tennison in the television mystery series, Prime Suspect from 1992 to 2006. Her work on the television show earned the actress, five BAFTA awards. In 2007, Mirren earned her first Oscar and Golden Globe for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen. Afterwards, she earned an Emmy Award and Golden Globe for the HBO movie, Elizabeth I. In 2010 she switched it up and starred alongside with Morgan Freeman and Bruce Willis in the action thriller Red. THe film did well, and she has signed on to do the sequel. In 2012, the actress played Alma Reville in the biopic film, Hitchcock. She has received accolades for her performance in this film.
