James Christian Kimmel was born on November 13, 1967 in Brooklyn, New York. Kimmel’s father was an IBM executive while his mother was a homemaker. He is the oldest of three children. The family moved to Las Vegas when Kimmel was 9 and he would eventually graduate high school and enroll in college, first at the University of Las Vegas and then Arizona State University, although he did not graduate from either.
Kimmel worked several jobs in radio around the country, gaining popularity in most markets he worked but often being fired from the jobs for one reason or another. At one of those stops, when he hosted his own show in Palm Springs, he persuaded future star Carson Daly to drop out of college to become his intern. He would become “Jimmy the Sports Guy” for the Kevin and Bean morning show in Los Angeles for five years. His move to television started when he starred opposite of Ben Stein in Win Ben Stein’s Money on Comedy Central in 1997. The pair earned an Emmy and he would go on to co-host The Man Show with Adam Carolla. He would also create a production company with Carolla that would produce other hit shows like, Crank Yankers.
Kimmel’s star would reach new heights when he left The Man Show in 2003 to host his own late-night talk show on ABC, Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2003. Kimmel has appeared on numerous other interview shows, including filling in for Larry King on Larry King Live, co-hosting Live with Regis and Kelly and hosted the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2012. He then dated comedian Sarah Silverman until 2008 but married Molly McNearney, a writer for his show, in 2013.
