Mystikal is an American rapper with an estimated net worth of $3 million. He is 5’11 1/2″ and weighs 190 pounds. Michael Lawrence Tyler was born on September 22, 1970 in New Orleans, Louisiana. After serving in the Gulf War, Tyler got involved with music. In 1994 he released his debut album, Mystikal, with New Orleans-based independent record label Big Boy Records. Following a beef with hip-hop artists on New Orleans-based label Cash Money Records and the untimely death of his sister, Mystikal squashed the beef with Lil Wayne and decided to do future collaborations.
After releasing his second album Mind of Mystikal under Jive Records, Mystikal signed to Master P’s No Limit Records in 1996. He released his third studio album Unpredictable in November 1997. The rapper also appeared on many of No Limit’s group compilation albums in the late 1990s. In 1998 he released Ghetto Fabulous which became his last album with No Limit.
In 1999 Mystikal began recording his first album after leaving Master P’s label. He released Let’s Get Ready in 2000. The album included the hit single “Danger” featuring emerging R&B singer Nivea. The song reached No.1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 2001. It also contained the Neptune-produced smash single “Shake Ya Ass”. Let’s Get Ready debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This is his only chart-topping album to date.
Mystikal’s latest album Tarantula, was released in 2001. The album contained the hit song ”Bouncin’ Back (Bumpin’ Me Against The Wall)”. The song embodied the rapper’s distinctive funky and energetic style of rap, which some say are reminiscent of Little Richard and James Brown. ”Bouncin’ Back (Bumpin’ Me Against The Wall)” seamlessly blended elements of jazz, swing , and hip-hop. The well-received album earned Mystikal two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album and Best Male Rap Solo Performance in 2003. That same year he starred in the film 13 Dead Men.
At the height of his success, Mystikal encountered legal problems. On June 26, 2003 Michael Tyler plead guilty to sexual battery and extortion. He was sentenced to six years in prison. While serving time in jail, Mystikal was charged with two misdemeanor counts for failing to file tax returns in 1998 and 1999. He was released from prison on January 14, 2010.
Mystikal signed to Cash Money Records In November 2011 and is currently touring the United States. His seventh studio album entitled Original does not have a definite release date.
