Darryl McDaniels has an estimated net worth of $45 million

Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels is an American rapper and producer with an estimated net worth of $45 million. He is 6’1″ and weighs 178 pounds. Darryl Matthews McDaniels was born on May 31, 1964 in Hollis, Queens, New York. McDaniels started getting interested in hip-hop after he heard recordings of Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five. In 1978 his older brother gave him a mixer and turntables. He practiced deejaying in the basement of his adoptive parent’s home. He adopted the stage name “Grandmaster Get High”.

Later that year, McDaniels collaborated with his friend Joseph “Run” Simmons to form a rap group. They added Jam-Master Jay, a young Dj in Hollis who had a great reputation for mixing. Simmons convinced McDaniels to start rapping and leave the mixing to Jam-Master Jay. Eventually McDaniels preferred rapping over mixing records. He changed his stage name to “D.M.C.” which stood for his childhood nickname, ” Darryl Mac”.

In 1984 the trio released their debut album Run-D.M.C. Afterwards, the group’s success grew extremely. They became the most popular rap group the of  the time. Although Run-D.M.C. cannot be credited with creating the art form of hip-hop, the group did help make hip-hop go mainstream. According to Wikipedia, the group has accomplished a number of feats:

  • A No. 1 R&B charting rap album
  • The second rap act to appear on American Bandstand (the Sugar Hill Gang appeared first on the program in 1981)
  • The first rap act to chart in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 more than once
