American R&B singer Chris Brown has an estimated net worth of $22 million dollars. Christopher Maurice Brown was born May 5, 1989 in Tappahannock, Virginia. The singer is six feet and one inch tall and he weighs 156 pounds. His mother Joyce Hawkins worked as a daycare center director and his father Clinton Brown was a correctional officer. As a young child Chris looked up to musicians like Michael Jackson, Anita Baker, and Stevie Wonder. He sang in his church’s choir. His mother wasn’t aware that he could really sing until she heard him singing an Usher  song at the age of eleven. She was so impressed with his talent that she encouraged Chris to pursue music professionally.

Brown taught himself how to sing and dance my mimicking the people he idolized. At the age of 13, Brown Brown was discovered by Hitmission Records, a local production company. The company provided Brown with voice coaching any helped him produce a demo tape. When he was ready for the “Big Apple”, Chris Brown and his team traveled to New York city to meet with top record executives. He auditioned for Tina Davis and “L.A” Reid of Def Jam records. They were impressed with his talent and Davis signed on to become his manager. Due to a company merger, Davis lost her job. She shopped Chris around to other labels and he signed with Jive Records. He chose to sign with Jive due to their success with young pop artists like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. Chris moved to New York permanently to further his singing career.

It took less than eight weeks for Brown to produce his first studio album. He added his input to the album and was able to get some co-writing credits. He wanted to add things into the album that real teenagers go through; like stealing your parents car because you aren’t allowed to drive. In 2005, his  self-titled first album went double platinum (2 million records sold) by RIAA standards. It sold 3 million copies worldwide. In 2007 Brown made a more grown up sophomore album entitled Exclusive. This album featured chart topping singles “Kiss Kiss” and With You” which helped it reach the number two spot on Billboard’s albums chart. His third studio album Graffiti, didn’t fair as well as the predecessors due to his altercation with ex girlfriend Rihanna. Brown claimed that he was blackballed by retailers as they were not stocking his CD onto shelves. His third album reached number seven on the Billboard charts and received bad reviews from critics.

The next year Chris worked hard to get back to the top spot and he got it. His 2011 album ‘F.A.M.E.” reached number one on the charts. This was the first time Brown ever had a number one album. This album also earned him three Grammy nominations. His latest album “Fortune” was released July of 2012 and it reached number one of the charts as well. Brown is currently working on his sixth studio album “X” which is scheduled to come out November of 2013.
