Basketball season is back and celebrities are holding court as they cheer on their favorite teams. Celebrities like Jack Nicholson and Leonardo DiCaprio are always court side watching the Los Angeles Lakers while Spike Lee is ever present (and always screaming) in his seats at every New York Knicks game. While we get excited to see celebrities sitting front and center during the games, the real stars of the show are the players—and they have salaries to match their star power. The following National Basketball Association players (both former and present) are the highest paid players in the NBA:

5) Kobe Bryant, $200 million

Kobe Bryant, also known as the “Black Mamba”, is an American basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers. He has an estimated net worth of $200 million and his 2013 salary is $30.45 million. He is currently the highest paid active NBA player in the league.

 

4) Hakeem Olajuwon, $200 million

Hakeem Olajuwon, also known as Hakeen Abdul “The Dream” Olajuwon, is a retired Nigerian-American professional center for the Houston Rockets and the Toronto Raptors. He led the Rockets to back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995. He is considered one of the greatest centers in NBA history. He is currently a successful real estate investor in Houston with profits exceeding $100 million.

3) Shaquille O’Neal, $250 million

Shaquille O’Neal, also known as “Shaq” is a retired American basketball player, former rapper and current sports analyst on the television show Inside the NBA. On top of his illustrious NBA career, Shaq has enjoyed  success as an actor in films such as Kazaam, and as a rapper (his first album Shaq Diesel went platinum.) Althought he is retired he continues to work for charity and on television with an annual salary of $20 million.

Earvin, “Magic” Johnson, Jr, is a retired NBA point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. In 1996 Johnson was honored as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history and was enshired in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. After a physical before the 1991-92 NBA season Johnson learned he tested positive for HIV. He retired from the NBA and became an advocate for HIV/AIDS, spreading awareness through every media outlet. in 2012, Johnson purchased the Los Angeles Dodgers with a group of businessmen and sold his chain of Starbucks for $75 million.

1) Michael Jordan, $650 million

Michael Jeffrey Jordan is a retired shooting guard for the Chicago Bulls with an estimated net worth of $650 million. Throughout his career he was known as one of the best players of all time and continues to remain popular. In the 1990′s Jordan parlayed his basketball fame into multiple endorsement deals and even starred in the animated 1996 feature film Space Jam as himself. He is currently the majority owner and head of basketball operations for the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats.
