The Most Expensive Wedding Dresses

Sloane | December 10, 2013

Every young girl dreams of the day she’ll walk down the aisle in a beautiful wedding dress—it’s a right of passage and the only time a girl can express her inner princess without looking crazy. For most girls, their dream dresses are cast aside for lesser dresses when they take a look at their wedding budget and realize a princess ball gown is out of their price range. For celebrities, wedding budgets rarely exist and they can spend exorbitant amounts of money on everything from multiple dresses to security guards. Here are the most expensive wedding dresses a celebrity has ever worn:

Perhaps the most well known dress in the whole world is the gown worn by Princess Diana when she married Princes Charles in 1981. The victorian style gown featured 250-yards of lace, tulle and silk taffeta, and over 10,000 pearls and sequins. Designer David Emanuel added a 25-foot long train to the already spectacular gown which made it one of the longest wedding trains in history. In today’s dollars the gown would be approximately $150,000.

Before Kate Middleton became Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, she was a regular commoner with a good pedigree and an excellent sense of fashion. Her exquisite taste in men and clothing led her to become England’s princess with a royal wedding to match. Her satin and lace Alexander McQueen wedding gown took months to make. It features French Chantilly and English Cluny lace, ivory satin gazar, and hand-stitched lace appliques. The gown cost an estimated $400,000 and has spawned thousands of knock offs.

She has sold more than 650,000 wedding dresses and has boutiques around the world selling her gorgeous creations. Her most expensive dress, however, has yet to find a bride to wear it. It’s called the White Gold Diamond dress and features a five-carat white gold diamond centerpiece and 1,000 pearls. The cost? $8.5 million. If the marriage doesn’t work out at least the bride knows she’s got $8.5 million in the closet.
