The Most Expensive Watches in the World

When celebrities buy watches they don’t just stroll into the nearest Swatch store and buy a Flik-Flak. No, when celebrities need to keep time they do it in the most lavish way possible. The following watches have been owned and loved by celebrities across the world and many of them cost more money than a normal person would make in their entire lives:

 

The Patek Philippe Calibre 89: $5,120,000

This commemorative pocket watch, created in 1989, was made to celebrate the company’s 150th anniversary. Declared by Patek Philippe as the “most complicated watch in the world” weighs 1.1 kg, exhibits 24 hands and has 1,728 components including a leap year indicator, moon phase display, thermometer, time of sunrise, time of sunset, equation of time, and century display (just to name a few!) The watch is made from 18 carat gold, took five years to develop, and four years to manufacture. Only four watches were made, one in white gold, one in yellow gold, one in rose gold, and one in platinum, 

 

Breguet No. 160 grand complication Marie Antoinette: $30,000,000

This case watch, designed by Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet was rumored to have been commissioned in 1783 by Count Hans Axel von Fersen. The Count was a reported lover and friend to Queen Marie Antoinette and wanted to build the watch to honor his Queen. Work began on the watch in 1783 and ended in 1827, four years after Breguet’s death. At the time the watch contained every known function including: clock, perpetual calendar, minute repeater, thermometer, chronograph, power reserve, Pare-Chute, chime, independent second hand. The watch is encased in gold with a clear face to show its inner workings.

 

Vacheron Tour de I’ile: $1,250,000

Vacheron is the oldest watch manufacture still in existence. Their 250 plus years of experience have allowed them to create truly exceptional pieces of history and functional art. Their Tour de I’ile watch has tourbillon, two faces, and more complications and part than the Breguet Marie Antoinette. Only seven of these double-face watches were made to mark the 250th anniversary of the company. It features a sunset time, perpetual calendar, second time zone, equation of time, and representation of the night sky.
