Paul graduated from College of Arts, Science, and Technology (now University of Technology) where he trained in commerce. He planned on pursuing a career in hotel management.

Sean started performing at open mic events in Jamaica around 1998. Jeremy Harding, Sean Paul’s manager heard of him after his brother informed him that he heard the singer performing at a small open mic in Kingston. He told Harding that Paul’s voice was reminiscent of the popular dancehall DJ Super Cat.

Harding invited Paul in for a meeting and they started recording music. Paul visited the studio everyday to record track after track. In 2000 Sean Paul released his debut studio album Stage One through VP Records.

In 2002 Sean Paul began working with a group of producers out of Toronto. He recorded his second album Dutty Rock that year. His album was well received internationally, including a string of chart toppers like “Gimme the Light”, “Get Busy”, “Like Glue”, and “I’m Still In Love with You.” Dutty Rock sold over 6 million copies. He won a Grammy award for Best Reggae Album for his sophomore album.

The success of his second album allowed Sean Paul to collaborate with Beyonce on her number one single “Baby Boy” and Blu Cantrell’s “Breathe” which charted well in the UK.

The rest of Sean Paul’s discography includes The Trinity (2005), Imperial Blaze (2009), Tomahawk Technique (2012), and Full Frequency (2014). Some of his other popular singles are “Got 2 Luv U”, “Temperature”, “We Be Burnin’”, “Give It Up to Me”, “Ever Blazin’”, and “Never Gonna Be the Same”.
