Missy Elliott has an estimated net worth of $50 million
Missy Elliott is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, and record producer with an estimated net worth of $50 million. She is 5’2″ and weighs 155 pounds. The only child of mother Patricia and father Ronnie, a U.S. Marine, Melissa Arnette “Missy” Elliott was born on July 1, 1971, in Portsmouth, VA. From birth, Missy’s family moved from town to town due to her father’s military service. Although extremely intelligent, Elliot didn’t flourish scholastically. Instead she was the typical “class clown” learning from a young age to use humor and performing as a way to make friends and to escape her harsh home life. At 14, she and her mother would flee from years of verbal and physical abuse from Elliot’s father. In a 2011 interview, Missy revealed she was also sexually molested at the hands of an older cousin.
At four years old, Missy would declare her desire to be an entertainer, although it would be many years before anyone would take her seriously. Beginning her career as mainly a music producer and songwriter in the early 1990’s, Missy produced and wrote material for Jodeci, Raven-Symone, Craig Mack and collaborated with future mega producer, Timbaland. Elliot and Timbaland joined forces as a hit producing songwriting/production team, churning out hit after hit including Destiny’s Child’s, “Get on the Bus” and Aaliyah’s “One in a Million,” which went double-platinum.
After small rap cameos on numerous singles, Missy decided to try her hand at a solo venture releasing her debut album, Supa Dupa Fly in 1997. The album would prove wildly successful, going platinum and earning a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. In 2002, after two more noteworthy albums, Missy released her most successful album to date Under Construction, which The New York Times praised as “the year’s best hip-hop album.” In 2003 and 2005, Elliot released two more solo projects which have ceased to match the success of her earlier work. After a six year break from her solo career, Missy revealed in a 2011 interview to People magazine that she suffers from Graves’ disease, a hyperthyroid disorder. Missy has expressed her desire for a family and an interest to possibly adopt in the future.
