Alicia Keys is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer with an estimated net worth of $60 million. Some of her hit records are “Fallin,” “Unbreakable,” “Diary,” and “Unthinkable.” She is 5’9″ and weighs 160 pounds. Alicia Augello Cook was born on January 25, 1981 in New York City, New York. Keys’ father was a flight attendant and her mother a part-time actress and paralegal. Her parents separated when she was very young and she was raised mostly by her mother in the Hell’s Kitchen section of New York City. Keys had the show business bug in her from a young age as she appeared in an episode of The Cosby Show when she was four years old. She also took music and dance lessons early on and started playing the piano at 7. She attended and graduated from the Professional Performing Arts School at 16 as valedictorian.

Although she was accepted into Colombia University, she dropped out of school after only a month to pursue music full time and soon signed a demo deal with renowned producer Jermaine Dupri where she would go on to feature on a Christmas album. In 1997, she wrote and recorded the song “Dah Dee Dah (Sexy Thing)” for the soundtrack to the blockbuster 1997 movie Men in Black. More soundtrack work followed in the 1990s until she released her first studio album, Songs in A Minor, in 2001. The album was an instant success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and selling over 230,000 units in the first week – over 12 million worldwide so far. Keys won five Grammys in 2002, including Song of the Year, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, Best New Artist and Best R&B Album.

Following the success of her first album, Keys was a certifiable star and her second album, The Diary of Alicia Keys, solidified her as a force in the industry when it was released in 2003. It sold 4.4 million copies. Later in 2004, Keys resume would be further bolstered by the release of her book, Tears for Water: Songbook of Poems and Lyrics, which became a New York Times bestseller. She would go on to release another album in 2005 and the first single “Unbreakable,” debuted at No. 1on Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for 11 weeks. In 2007 she had her major acting debut in Smokin’ Aces and followed it up with a role in The Nanny Diaries. Her fourth album, As I Am, also debuted at No. 1 – tying for the most No. 1 debuts of all time. She would go on to record two more albums, including 2012’s Girl on Fire, feature on Jay Z’s Ney York anthem, “Empire State of Mind,” and continue win Grammy’s and other recognition as one of the most talented and successful musicians in the world.  In 2010 she married hip hop artist Swizz Beats and the couple has a child together.
