Robert Toru Kiyosaki was born on April 8, 1947 in Hilo,Hawaii. Kiyosaki served in the Vietnam war as a helicopter gunship pilot and he was awarded with the Air Medal for his acts of bravery. In 1974, Kiyosaki was honorably discharged from the military and began selling copy machines for the Xerox Corporation.
Between the mid 1970s and eighties, Kiyosaki started a string of companies that ultimately failed. In 1977 he started up a company that created the first nylon and Velcro “surfer” wallets. This led to the demise of his first venture.
In the early eighties, Kiyosaki tried his luck again by starting up a company that licensed t-shirts for heavy rock metal bands like the Mötley Crüe. By 1985 the company was bankrupt. He began living with his then-girlfriend and then living out of his Toyota for a couple of months.
Robert Kiyosaki worked for years to build his company from the ground up. After leaving the Money and You program in 1994, Kiyosaki launched Cashflow Technologies, Inc. Three years later. The company provides financial and business education; and owns the Rich Dad and Cashflow brands.
Kiyosaki is well known for publishing the Rich Dad Poor Dad series of financial self-help books. Three of his books, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Rich Dad’s CASHFLOW Quadrant, and Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing have all been number one best-selling books. He has written over 15 books which have collectively sold over 26 million copies.
