Magic Johnson has an estimated net worth of $500 million dollars

Magic Johnson is a former professional American basketball player and entrepreneur with an estimated net worth of $500 million. Johnson is 6’9″ and weighs 231 pounds. Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Jr. was born on August 14, 1959 in Lansing, Michigan. Magic is married (since 1991) and has three children. Magic’s father was a General Motors assembly worker and his mother was a custodian. Both parents played basketball in their youth and instilled the love of the game in their children. Magic showed promise on the court early on, dominating in junior high and high school, where he earned his nickname after a scoring a triple-double. He was named to the 1977 McDonald’s All-American Team and decided to attend college at Michigan State University. After a successful first year, he led the Spartans to the NCAA Championship game in his sophomore year, where they played Larry Bird’s Indiana State University team. Magic got the upper hand as the Spartans won the title in what would be the first of many championship meetings between the two players.

Magic decided to forego his last two years of college and entered the NBA Draft in 1979 and was selected first by the Los Angeles Lakers. He would go on to lead the Lakers to an NBA title in his first year and was named the NBA Finals MVP, the only rookie to ever win the award. He was also named an All-Star in his first season. An injury sidetracked Magic in his second year, but before his third he signed what was the highest paying sports contract in history to that point ($25 million) and again led the Lakers to an NBA championship. In 1984, Magic and the Lakers faced Bird and his Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals with his adversary avenging the college championship loss. However, a year later the two teams were back in the championship series and Magic and the Lakers win the title in 1985.  The teams would meet again in the 1987 NBA Finals, with the Lakers and Magic winning. He also won the season MVP award that year, his first.  Magic won his fifth title in 1988 as the Lakers defeated the Detroit Pistons. He would win his second and third MVP awards in 1989 and 1990 but could the Lakers lost in the Finals both years.

Before the 1991 season, in a Seminole moment that would make sports history, Magic held a press conference to announce that he had tested positive for HIV and was retiring from professional basketball to fight the disease. Although he would go on to return to play in the 1992 All-Star game and be a member of the 1992 Dream Team which won a gold medal in the Olympics, Magic’s career moved off the court following his HIV announcement. Remarkably, however, it has been just as successful if not more so, as Magic has become an entrepreneur with a number of business interests including founding Magic Johnson Enterprises (with a net worth of $700 million) and becoming part owner of the Lakers and then the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as a constant television personality doing everything from serving as a basketball analyst to hosting television specials and talk shows.
