Vera Wang is an American fashion designer with an estimated net worth of $115 million. Wang is best known for her iconic bridal gown collections. She is 5’3″ and her weight is 100 pounds. Vera Ellen Wang was born on June 27, 1949 in New York City. Her parents were born in China and moved to the U.S. in the 1940s. Wang grew up in prosperity as her father owned a successful medicine company and her mother worked as a translator for the United Nations. Wang was a competitive figure skater growing up but just failed to qualify for the Olympics. As a result she entered the fashion industry. She studied at the University of Paris and Sarah Lawrence College where she earned an art history degree.
In 1971 Wang began working at Vogue and in less than a year she was promoted to senior fashion editor. Wang excelled at the high pressure job and stayed in the position for 15 years before taking a job at Ralph Lauren as a design director for accessories. Wang was set to marry her longtime boyfriend in 1989 but was frustrated with the lack of options for bridal wear so she designed her own gown and had a dressmaker tailor it. In a flash, her new career was born.
After getting financial backing from her father, she would go on to open her own bridal boutique in the Carlyle Hotel on Madison Avenue in 1990. Although, the boutique originally offered bridal gowns from high end designers, Wang would take a couple of years to hone her own designs and eventually launched her own signature collection. The designs were an immediate success and she has gone on to build a veritable fashion powerhouse with all manner of dress designs, accessories, fragrances, jewelry, eyewear, shoes and housewares. She has boutiques around the world. In 2012, she separated from her longtime husband, with which she has two children. Her designs are often lauded on the red carpet, on fashion shows and even in television and film.
