A middle child, Raymond Albert Romano was born on December 21, 1957 in Queens, New York. After attending Queens College, he embarked on a career in comedy performing in local clubs and competing in stand-up contests. By 1995, the comic had landed appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Late Night with David Letterman.

In 1996, Ray shot to instant fame with the lead role in the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. During the series’ successful nine seasons, the actor became a favorite of viewers and critics alike, garnering four People Choice Awards and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The actor has also appeared in a number of films including Ice Age (2002), Welcome to Mooseport (2004), and Grilled (2006). He returned to television in a starring role in the TNT series Men of a Certain Age, alongside Scott Bakula and Andre Braugher.

In 2012, Ray joined the cast of the hit NBC drama Parenthood, co-starring Lauren Graham and Peter Krause. Outside of acting, he is an avid poker player, participating in six World Series of Poker competitions. He has supported several charitable causes including the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Ante Up For Africa, a poker tournament that raises money and awareness for the crisis in Darfur. The actor has been married since 1987 and has four children.
