He allegedly became upset because he did not find out about the show directly from Joan. He never spoke with her ever again although she has said she tried many times to reconcile. The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers was not well received and Fox executives threatened to fire her producer, which was also her husband. Joan defended her husband’s job, and Fox fired both of them. Three months later her husband committed suicide.
In 1989 things began to turn around for the comedienne when she began the daytime show, The Joan River Show. The following year, she won a Daytime Emmy for her daytime show. The Joan River Show stayed on air for five years. Joan and her daughter Melissa, hosted the pre-award show with E! Network for the 1994 Golden Globes.
