Born into a large Catholic family, Mario Lopez, Jr. was born on October 10, 1973 in San Diego, California and began performing as a toddler. In 1984, he was cast in Disney’s variety show Kid Incorporated and appeared in made for TV movies The Deacon Street Deer (1986) and Superman (1987).

Mario earned his first notable TV role in 1989 as “AC Slater” in the teen sitcom Saved by the Bell. The show’s success as well as his performance launched the actor to fame becoming an overnight teen idol. He played the role for four years and appeared in several of its TV movies and the spin-off Saved by the Bell: The College Years. After his work on the teen sitcom, Mario appeared in a number of made for TV movies including Breaking the Surface: The Greg Louganis Story (1997), Holiday in Handcuffs (2007), and Husband for Hire (2008). As well as acting, Mario has built a successful TV hosting career on shows including America’s Best Dance Crew, Extra and The Talk. In 2012, he began hosting the popular reality TV singing competition series The X-Factor.

An avid proponent of health and fitness, Mario has published three non-fiction books Mario Lopez Knockout Fitness and cookbooks Extra Lean and Extra Lean Family. The actor married longtime girlfriend actress Ali Landry in 2004 and divorced only two weeks later after it was revealed he cheated on her during his bachelor party. He married dancer Courtney Mazza in 2012 and the couple has two children, daughter Gia and son Dominic. As well as his on-going gig as host of The X-Factor, Mario will also appear in the 2015 animated film The Smurfs 3.
