Pete Sampras is a retired American tennis player with an estimated net worth of $150 million. He is 6’1″ and weighs 170 pounds. Pete Sampras was born on August 12, 1971 in Potomac, Maryland. From an early age Sampras’ parents noticed their son’s great athletic abilities. At the age of three the young boy discovered a tennis racket in the basement of his parent’s home. He spent hours hitting balls against the wall with the tennis racket. In 1978 Sampras’ family moved to Palos Verdes, California. The warm climate allowed Pete to play tennis more often.

At the age of 11, he met and played with his idol Rod Laver. The Sampras joined the Jack Kramer Club and patrons of the club noticed the Sampras’ son’s talent on the tennis court. Pete Fischer, a pediatrician and tennis enthusiast took an interest in Pete. Fischer coached Sampras until 1989. He prepared him for Wimbledon by turning Sampras’ double-handed backhand to  single-handed.

At the age of 16 Pete Sampras turned pro. At the end of his first year he finished with a world ranking of 97; he started the year off with a ranking of 893. During Sampras 14-year tour career he won 14 Grand Slam singles titles. He became the first tennis player to break tennis great Roy Emerson’s record of 12 Slams.

Pete Sampras also won 5 ATP Year end World Championships and 2 Grand Slam cups (indoor titles). He was ranked as the World No.1 player on April 12, 1993 and kept the title until 1998. Pete Sampras is the first and only American to win Wimbledon and ATP World Tour Finals. He is regarded as one of the best tennis players of all time.
