He also impressed in his sophomore campaign, despite suffering through some injuries. He decided to enter the 2001 NFL Draft and was taken with the first overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons.

Vick started two games in his first season and played in a total of eight showing some spurts of the ability which made him so highly sought after. In his second year as a professional, he started 15 games and led the team to the playoffs and his first playoff win. He was named to the Pro Bowl after the  2002 season. In 2003, Vick missed 11 games through injury but returned strong the following campaign leading the Falcons to another playoff run and be named to the Pro Bowl for the second time in 2004.  Although he continued to be successful individually, the team failed to qualify for the playoff the next two seasons.

In 2007, Vick pled guilty to federal charges regarding his involvement in a dog fighting ring and was sentenced to 21-months in prison. He was suspended from the NFL and released by the Falcons. During this time, he filed for bankruptcy. After serving out his sentence, Vick came back to professional football when he signed for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009. A year later he led the team to the playoffs and has been with them ever since,  and signed a one-year deal in 2013 worth $10 million. Vick once enjoyed a number of high-profile endorsement contracts, including with Nike, Coca-Cola and Powerade, but lost most of them after his prison sentence. Nike, however, re-signed Vick in 2009.
