Lance Edward Armstrong was born on September 18, 1971 in Plano, Texas. Lance’s biological father was a route manager for The Dallas Morning News, while his mother was a secretary. Lance’s parents divorced when he was two years old and Lance was later adopted by his mother’s new husband Terry Armstrong. Lance was married in 1997 and has three children. After his divorce he had a high-profile relationship with singer Sheryl Crow. At 12, Lance began swimming competitively, finishing fourth in the Texas state 1,500 freestyle. After his recovery, Lance started training in the Appalachian Mountains and in 1998 finished fourth in the Vuelta a Espana. A year later, in 1999, he won his first Tour de France, beating the second place rider by more than seven minutes and becoming only the second American to win it. Lance would go on to win the next six Tour de France’s setting the all-time record with 7 titles, although the titles would eventually be stripped by the United States Anti-Doping Agency in 2012. Lance admitted to many of the doping allegations in 2013. He founded the Livestrong Foundation for cancer patients.
